Biography

Jay Pittman, known professionally as Aeter, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is known for his music within the alternative genre, where he varies between different sounds including indie rock/pop, SoundCloud rap, emo rock, R&B, and more. His ability and approach to these different genres has become a defining part of his music.

Aeter has been making music since 2020, originally under a different name before switching to the Aeter name. His first notable breakout track was "friends", released October 10, 2023. The song became the most popular song on Aeter's SoundCloud page as well as his most streamed song on Spotify until he released "boyfriend" on February 5, 2024.

Later throughout 2024, as Aeter continued gaining traction, he released his five-song project loser, showcasing his versatility. Since then Aeter has released multiple projects including Death of a Jester, Clown, SKIN TURNS RED, and INFRARED.

Across these different projects, Aeter has developed distinct creative personas and visual worlds around his rollouts. As of 2026, he has accumulated millions of streams and a strong audience within his scene.

SoundCloud activity

Aeter initially focused heavily on SoundCloud, using multiple side accounts to release songs that would not always be distributed to every major streaming platform. This became one of his methods of introducing new sounds to listeners and building interest around future projects.

Accounts such as 2007, Retea, and Susie are examples of Aeter using alternate identities and accounts to explore different sounds.

The 2007 SoundCloud account became notable for distorted post-hardcore and emo rock music. The nostalgic sound of those recordings attracted listeners who connected with that style.

Music collectives

Aeter is a member of two music collectives: Finesse Cult and FNNMILITIA.

Finesse Cult features underground artists including Yuke, Jaydes, Kushbabykeys, and others.

FNNMILITIA is a collective Aeter has pushed more heavily during 2026. Members include Imsg, Ripidols, Raidurr, and others. Ripidols is also Aeter's relative.

Before FNNMILITIA, Aeter was part of a collective called Sincerism, which included several members who would later become involved with FNNMILITIA.

Recording and production

Aeter is also known for recording his music using BandLab, a digital audio workstation that gained significant popularity among younger independent musicians during the early 2020s.

His use of BandLab became part of the identity of his early recordings and reflects the accessibility of the tools used by a large portion of the emerging SoundCloud and TikTok-era underground music scene.

The Aeter Gallery documents photographs of Aeter, personal portraits, selfies, outfits, album-era imagery, and other visual material associated with his public artistic identity.
